Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron || Book Review

Rating: 4.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Do not be silent. Raise your voice. Be a light in the dark.”

Plot: It has been 200 hundred years since Cinderella's fairy tale ended but the tradition continues... Every year there's a royal ball where every girl has three chances (one ball each year) to find a husband and then settle into a "comfortable" life as a wife. The girls not chosen are forfeit.

But Sophia does not want this, she does not want to be chosen. She is in love with Erin and she is not giving up even though Erin refuses to rebel.

“I don't want to be saved by some knight in shining armour. I'd like to be the one in the armour, and I'd like to be the one doing the saving.”

On the night of the ball, she makes a run for it. She runs into Constance (the last descendant of Cinderella and her stepsisters. Here she learns the true tale of Cinderella.

Whether the stepsisters were really evil, why did Cinderella father and mother die, who is the fairy godmother who turned pumpkins into carriages, was Prince Charming actually charming as they say so.

“It's risky...But sometimes that's the only way to get things done. Take the risk, light the fuse. Onward.”

Together, the girls must find a way to save their town by revealing the true tale to the world and defeating King Manford as they fall in love.

No offence but I hate Cinderella... why?? cuz. She didn't fight back, she just let her stepsisters and stepmother just abuse her and waited for a guy to come with her shoe?!

descriptionBut I loved this version of the tale. The writing and the execution are good and the plot twists. Warning: This book does have some unexpected plot twists but once you read it, it will just soak in. I really liked Sophia's romance with Constance, while having its cute moments, was very rushed. I wish there will be a sequel.

Characters

Which I like😍

Sophia- This is one of those rare times where I like the protagonist instead of the Supporting Characters. She is determined to change the world. I really like how she doesn't want to hide or to cover her but to face it.

Constance- She is amazing. Setting up bombs, sticking a dagger in every men's neck yeah that's her style.

Luke-After hearing Luke's story I thought he would play a main role as well, but we don't even get to see him until the end of the story.

Which I hate😒

Erin- I liked her at first but then I slowly started hating her. One word to describe Erin is Dumb. Sophia wants to protect her, to give her a better life but Erin just rebels.

Design; OMG! The cover design by Jet Purdie is so beautiful, Like her face literally speaks to me

“The palace underestimates the resourcefulness of women forced into a dark and dangerous place.”

Modern retelling,cute romance
