Murder Under a Red Moon By Harini Nagendra || Book Review

I haven't read the prequel yet so this is gonna be interesting.

Plot:Set in the early 1920’s when India was still under British Control talks about Kaveri, a infamous woman detective who has recently got successful. When life was going peacefully, with her pesky mother-in-law and adorable husband she reluctantly agrees to investigate a crime(embezzlement) under the red moon. Unfortunately she stumbles upon an enticing murder. The situation further becomes dangerous as someone is trying to frame her for the murder. With her life on the line she must draw her wits and reveal the killer..

Conflict: The Plot itself was quite splendid and thrilling that made the read much better

Time Travel: I love how the book teleports you to early times with Hindu customs, religious practices,Dog shows and lack of phones. Mainly about inferiority of women and they rise up against it. We are introduced to many powerful figures apart from Kaveri, we see Mrs Reddy, an affectionate woman, Mala a former prostitute who’s determined for development, and Shanti. Some figures like Coffee pudi Lakkamma are based on real characters making it a bit more realistic.

Feelings: The author shows how one’s beliefs can make them judgemental. Like how Kaveri becomes narrow-minded during the investigation

I also loved the historical note given at the back of the book and the recipes for incredibly delicious treats.

Ending: By ending I mean the climax , where all the things fall into place and truth is revealed or the last few chapters of this was, at least to say, quite boring. It just didn't speak to me and I feel it could have been made better.

Ram’s and Kaveri’s love for each other seems a little forced at times. Plus I feel Kaveri’s husband is a better detective than her.

Thriller Plot but Bad Ending.
