From the desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks || Book Review
Hey everyone, hope you're keeping well and today I'm sharing my review of From the desk of Zoe Washington.
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Plot: Zoe Washington is turning twelve this year and she is excited, she gets even more excited when she gets a letter from her birth dad, Marcus. She has never met him since he was in prison for a crime he says he has never committed. Zoe is determined to unveil the truth and get her dad out of prison. She also has to deal with the breakup between her and Trevor ( her best friend). On top of that, she’s working on her baking skills to compete at the Kids Baking Championship. So, She’s got a lot going on for a twelve-year-old.
➴Characters
For the character description, I would give it a solid 70 out of 100 with the ambitious, curious, strong main character, good character arcs and everything.
➴Execution
I absolutely loved it. The writing or how it is taken slowly so you don’t lose interest or practical handling of both parts of her life is perfect.
➴Tension
This element is put in the right to increase our curiosity *🚨spoiler Alert🚨* especially in their great 'Harvard adventure' (*not that this reveals anything really.)
➴Issues
This book addresses many issues like racism, wrongful conviction, and mixed-race blended families which are sensibly handled so it's not too hard for kids to understand.
If you like middle-grade books that deal with real-life issues, baking and music then this is your dream come true
Perfect for a middle-grade lover
